Looking at contemporary art i always asked myself what really art is. The following is my opinion.

  • A) Art is something that happens
  • B) Artworks are what they are even without being masterpieces
  •  
  • C) In addition a masterpiece should be:
    • 1. Direct Emotion/Information Deliverer (at one sight without any need for reasoning)
    • 2. Universal (it speaks to anyone in the world and it's without time)
    • 3. Original (it has never been done before)
    • 4. Beautiful(*)

(*) this is the most difficult feature to evaluate and i am not sure it's necessary

Examples of contemporary masterpieces: Warhol, Pollock, Schifano
