I always asked myself: can classical music and pop/rock songs be the same level of art?

In my opinion a pop/rock song can be also a masterpiece if it shows all these features:

  • 1) Simplicity
  • 2) Universality (it speaks to anyone in the world and it's without time)
  • 3) Originality (it has never been done before)
  • 4) Truth (it's true expression of the innner soul of the artist)

A supplementary way i use to countercheck if a pop/rock song is a masterpiece is to see if it reminds me a certain "image" among the followings two:

  • A) A Perfect Circle
  • B) The Castle's Rocks (Edinburg's Castle Rock exactly)

Below just a simple example of "visual" detection:

  • -"Imagine" by John Lennon is a perfect circle
  • -"Brown sugar" by Rolling Stones is a castle's rock

Note: if a work doesn't match the above criterias it doesn't mean that's not a masterpiece but only that's not detectable by my method.
